The Dubbo Community Directory includes a listing of over 1000 community organisations, services and activities available within Dubbo ranging from Support Groups, Health Services, Youth Activities, Indigenous Services, Children’s Services, Volunteer and Charitable Organisations just to name a few.
The 2006 and the 2007 directories were generously sponsored by AUSTAR, allowing Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre to have complete management of the production and the overall standard.
Demand for the directory had increased both within Dubbo and the region, with 10,000 copies of the 2007 directory being printed and distributed. Distribution points included:
• Primary and High Schools,
• Centrelink
• Real Estate Agents,
• Employment Agencies
• Dubbo Visitors Centre and Events Bureau,
• Dubbo City Council,
• Greater Area Western Health Service and
• Macquarie Regional Library
The Community Directory was included within the New Residents Pack distributed by Dubbo City Council to both new residents to the City and those making enquiries in relation to moving to Dubbo. Copies requested by Charles Sturt University were provided to all new students commencing at the Dubbo Campus.
Copies of the Community Directory were also given to all Motels and Caravan Parks in Dubbo for inclusion in their information compendium supplied in every room. Extra copies were also on display in a number of Motel reception areas.
Community Directories were also available to community members all year round at the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre as well as being included in information bags produced by the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre which are used throughout the year at a number of expos and display days eg Senior’s Expo and the Dubbo Show.
As Dubbo is considered a central point for medical, educational and shopping needs for the region, the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre had also distributed copies of the Community Directory via a network of Neighbourhood Centre’s within the Western Region to ensure community information is available on a wider scale.
DNC have taken responsibility for the production updating and distribution of the directory. Staff and volunteers annually update the directory information, which is an enormous effort and, a lot of work hours.
In 2008 & 2009 we were unable to attract a sponsor for the printing of the Community Directory. Our Management Committee however were keen to keep the information relevant, up-to-date and most importantly, available to the community and it was therefore made available to all on our website.
To ensure we have the correct information available, we endeavour to contact every organisation listed in the directory seeking their assistance to confirm OR update the information annually.
Once we are successful in attracting sponsorship to produce a hardcopy of the Community Directory, we will remain committed to keep the Community Directory information on our website as up to date as possible.
Local businesses and organisations that would like to be included in the Community Directory or those wishing to update information are asked to please contact the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre on Phone 6882 2100, Fax 6884 3994 or Post, PO Box 523, DUBBO 2830. Please feel free to include any relevant information about your service.
